Nick George is a successful attorney whose father’s sudden death causes him to go back into a life that he had abandoned many years ago. His father used to spend much time with the Darling family that was one of the richest families of New York, and had little time to spare for Nick and his mother.
Nick is hired to replace his father as their attorney, by the Darling family. As Nick becomes involved in the affairs of the family he learns about the scandalous lives of the various family members.
It is revealed that Nick was absolutely ignorant about the forty year long affair between Letitia Darling and Nick’s father. Reverend Brian Darling harbors a dislike for Nick because of the affair and this was known to only the Darling family and no one else. Reverend Brian Darling also has an illegitimate son whom he is forced to accept as his own, when the school refuses to accept him otherwise.
Towards the end of the episode, Nick formally takes up his father’s place as the attorney of the Darling family and resolves to find the culprit, in case his father’s death turns out to be a murder.
